Established 1912

Member of Southern Federation of Model Engineering Societies

Southampton Society of Model Engineers is most visible in its presence beside the River Itchen in Riverside Park, aiming to encourage interest in all aspects of model engineering and similar interests.

When clocks go forward in the spring and until the clocks go back on October we run the railway on Sunday afternoons from 1-4 p.m. Members are at the track by about 10 a.m.

Through the ‘summer’ period  we try to hold various events of interest to our members and in 2016 we plan to hold a summer party for members and their families,  a special day for models using the smaller 3½“ gauge welcome visiting clubs.

We also host a day for a local charity for single mums and their children and we have other charity days.

We meet on Wednesday mornings to do maintenance, testing (again) and to chat.

The Committee meets about every 4 to 6 weeks to transact the business of the club and the minutes of the committee are available to the membership.

The newsletter editor produces up to 4 newsletters each year but the main reason for this rather historical practice is slowly being replaced by our web site that communicates with the members.

During summer time, we carry passengers (for the children) although they come in all ages.
